Overview
As a Senior Product Designer at 10up, an agency Uber chose for our standout WordPress expertise, I led the redesign of Uber’s Newsroom to create a consistent design experience across all city blog properties. I owned the full process, starting with discovery and building a clear information architecture with detailed sitemaps, then creating user flows and functionality in wireframes. I shaped the creative vision, crafting responsive WordPress layouts that shone on every device.
Using Elasticsearch, I sharpened content discoverability to help users find what they needed quickly. To finish, I delivered clean specs and assets to the dev team for a seamless handoff. Uber Newsroom: A Smarter Search Experience
Uber Newsroom users struggled to find content fast in its growing library, leading to frustration and disengagement. Integrating Elasticsearch into its custom WordPress theme solved this with an innovative autocomplete search feature. Instant, relevant suggestions appeared as users typed, meeting the need for quick content discovery. Vital for Uber’s global expansion, it ensured easy access to timely news.
At a time when smart search was uncommon in WordPress ecosystems, this solution stood out. My emphasis on a clear, user-friendly UI ensured seamless integration and an intuitive, engaging search experience that heightened user satisfaction.
Since then, I’ve designed and implemented numerous autocomplete search solutions, building on this foundational achievement.
Uber Newsroom: WordPress Theme Design
For Uber Newsroom, I addressed the need for cohesive yet unique experiences across global and city-specific audiences by designing a scalable, responsive WordPress theme. I created a sitemap that adapted smoothly to various regions, following Uber’s brand guidelines with consistent patterns, fonts, and icons.
This ensured a unified user experience on both desktop and mobile, whether viewed globally or locally. I began with wireframes to outline structure and flow, then built high-fidelity designs for diverse layouts including homepage, category pages, individual posts, search results, and multiple post styles to suit varied content needs. This approach merged brand consistency with regional adaptability, laying a strong base for Uber’s growing news platform.
Driving Uber Newsroom’s success by architecting a scalable sitemap and crafting a design system that seamlessly aligns with brand guidelines, executed with bold vision and meticulous precision.
