Comboware: All-in-One Tableware
Overview
The idea for Comboware, the world’s first and only all-in-one disposable tableware, was born out of a casual meal with a friend (and future business partner).
We envisioned a simpler, more convenient approach to disposable cutlery. Comboware was designed to be the ultimate in convenience, providing a single, versatile utensil for each plate or bowl. Made with FDA-tested and approved materials, it was also oil-resistant, cut-resistant, and featured smooth edges for added safety.
Despite its innovative design and initial success, we made the difficult decision to stop selling Comboware. The manufacturing costs were ultimately too high to offer it at an affordable price point. This taught us valuable lessons about the importance of early cost analysis in the design process, particularly for disposable products
Patent Licensing
We successfully licensed the Comboware patents to a manufacturer, who produced and sold the product featuring popular Viacom and Disney character images through licensing agreements with those companies. This demonstrates the broad appeal and marketability of the patented Comboware design.
